HASIL LAWATAN KERJA KE ADELAIDE, AUSTRALIA, 04 – 06 MEI 2023

 

Saya telah mengadakan Lawatan Kerja ke Australia dari 04 hingga 06 Mei 2023 bagi mengetuai delegasi Malaysia ke Mesyuarat Tahunan Menteri-Menteri Luar MalaysiaAustralia (Annual Foreign Ministers’ Meeting – AFMM) ke-5. Australia menjadi tuan rumah pada mesyuarat kali ini.

AFMM merupakan satu mekanisme dua hala di bawah Deklarasi Bersama Kerjasama Strategik (Joint Declaration for Strategic Partnership – JDSP) antara Malaysia dan Australia yang ditubuhkan pada tahun 2015. Sehingga kini, sebanyak empat kali mesyuarat telah diadakan iaitu pada Mac 2017 (Putrajaya), November 2019 (Sydney), Disember 2020 (Kuala Lumpur) dan November 2021 (Kuala Lumpur) serta dihoskan secara bergilir antara Malaysia dan Australia.

Mesyuarat kali ini telah membincangkan perkara-perkara teras penting termasuklah ekonomi, sains dan teknologi, pendidikan, pertahanan dan keselamatan serantau. Perbincangan berjalan dalam suasana baik dan mesra dengan mengambil kira kepentingan bersama kedua-dua belah pihak. Mesyuarat juga bersetuju untuk mengambil tindakan susulan di peringkat kerja (working level) di kementeriankementerian dan agensi-agensi yang berkaitan.

Semasa di Adelaide juga, saya telah mengadakan kunjungan hormat ke atas Tuan Yang Terutama Peter Malinauskas MP, Premier Australia Selatan yang ke-47. Semasa pertemuan tersebut, kami telah bertukar-tukar pandangan mengenai pelbagai isu dua hala yang berkepentingan bersama serta usaha untuk mengukuhkan hubungan rakyat dengan rakyat (people to people) di antara Malaysia dan Australia Selatan. 

Pertemuan ini amat bermakna kerana tahun 2023 juga merupakan ulang tahun ke-50 ‘Sister City’ di antara Georgetown, Pulau Pinang dan Adelaide, Australia Selatan.

Secara keseluruhannya, Lawatan Kerja saya ke Australia ini telah berjaya:

     a. Mempertingkatkan hubungan dua hala yang sedia erat antara Malaysia – Australia;

      b. Menyelesaikan isu-isu bersama di bawah kerangka Kerjasama Strategik Komprehensif (Comprehensive Strategic Partnership – CSP);

     c. Membuka ruang dan peluang perdagangan melalui kerjasama baharu menerusi modenisasi Malaysia-Australia Free Trade Agreement (MAFTA); dan

     d. Memperkukuhkan komitmen bersama ke arah memelihara kestabilan dan keamanan rantau Indo-Pasifik tanpa sebarang ancaman mana-mana pihak.
