MEETING WITH MR. ALISTAIR DUTTON, SECRETARY GENERAL OF CARITAS INTERNATIONALIS, AT ITS HEADQUARTERS IN ROME

TYT Ambassador Hendy Assan met with Mr. Alistair Dutton, Secretary General of Caritas Internationalis, at its headquarters in Rome. Caritas Internationalis is a global confederation of over 160 Catholic humanitarian organizations working in more than 200 territories to promote peace, social justice, and human welfare. It is also the official relief organization of the Vatican since 1947.
The meeting provided an excellent platform to exchange views on humanitarian cooperation and the vital role of faith-based organizations in advancing shared global priorities. TYT Ambassador Hendy commended Caritas’ extensive work in responding to humanitarian crises, including support for displaced communities, earthquake victims, and those affected by conflicts.
Both sides discussed the meaningful role of Caritas Malaysia, which supports marginalized communities, indigenous peoples, and disaster relief efforts in Malaysia. The Ambassador also highlighted Malaysia’s commitment to interfaith dialogue and the country’s belief in the power of partnerships to build peace and promote social inclusion.
The Embassy looks forward to exploring future collaboration with Caritas Internationalis on interfaith initiatives, humanitarian responses, and environmental stewardship, including potential joint events and dialogues.
