MALAYSIA’S PARTICIPATION IN OBEROI MELTING POT CHARITY BAZAAR 2009

 

The Consulate General of Malaysia in Mumbai with the cooperation of the Malaysian Ladies Association participated in the Oberoi Melting Pot Charity Bazaar 2009 on 25 October 2009. This is the third time that Malaysia was represented at the event since the establishment of the Malaysian Consulate General in Mumbai. The event was organised by the Consular Corp in Mumbai, the Rotary Club Of Bombay and the Oberoi Hotel. 23 countries participated in the event namely Australia, Belgium, China, Egypt, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Ireland, Israel, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland, United Kingdom and The United States of America. The Oberoi Melting Pot programme featured the display of culinary and cultural performance from participating countries. Guests had the opportunities to taste choices of world cuisine . A silent auction was also carried out to raise funds to be channeled to three charity organizations i,e Prerana, Magic Bus and the French Indian school in Mumbai. Malaysia’s participation this year includes operating a booth offering Malaysian dishes and sweets, and presenting a Joget performance. The Malaysian food, which was prepared by members of PERWAKILAN, includes Mee Kari (Veg/Non Veg Curry Noodle), Kuih Lapis, Kuih Chara Berlauk, Kuih Bakar, Wajik and Popia Basah. To a surprise, the Malaysian food served was able to attract a large number of food lovers, as dishes ran out quickly. 6 childrens of PERWAKILAN Mumbai and Mrs. Nur Fadzlin performed a Malaysia’n dance ” Joget Cindai” …..as they also call it. Starting with the sound of Kompang, the Joget was well synchronized with the shout of Malaysia Truly Asia at the end of the dance. The dance was performed extremely well even though the children were given only 3 three days to practise. Malaysian food and performance received abundant of compliments from guests on that days and surely helped projecting further Malaysia’s image.
