MALAYSIAN HIGH COMMISIONER FOR INDIA INAUGURATED SCOMI’S OFFICE IN AND ATTENDED THE GROUNDBREAKING CEREMONY OF INDIA’S FIRST MONORAIL PROJECT IN MUMBA

MALAYSIAN HIGH COMMISIONER FOR INDIA INAUGURATED SCOMI’S OFFICE IN AND ATTENDED THE GROUNDBREAKING CEREMONY OF INDIA’S FIRST MONORAIL PROJECT IN MUMBAI.

 

The Malaysian High Commissioner for India, TYT Dato’ Tan Seng Sung officiated the Scomi Office as well as attended the groundbreaking ceremony of the Mumbai Monorail Project in Mumbai on 9 February 2009.

 

The inauguration of the Scomi Office took place at 3.00 pm with the presence of Mr. Shah Hakim Zain, Scomi Group Chief Executive Officer and Mr. Wan Zaidi Wan Abdullah, Consul General of Malaysia in Mumbai. The groundbreaking ceremony of the monorail project was carried out in the evening by the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Hon. Mr. Ashok Chavan with the presence of several state Ministers.

 

The RM1.85bil monorail project, excluding operations and maintenance works, was awarded to Scomi subsidiary Scomi Engineering Bhd and its consortium partner Larsen & Toubro Ltd India (L&T) by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority in November last year. The construction work of 19.54 km monorail tracks began in December 2008. The first phase of 10 km stretch is expected to be completed in 24 months while the second phase is to be completed in 30 months.
