5th Italian Association of Southeast Asian Studies (ITASEAS) Conference
The Embassy is supporting the 5th Italian Association of Southeast Asian Studies (ITASEAS) Conference, jointly organised by the University of Turin, the University of Naples L’Orientale and the University of Milan–Bicocca, in Turin from 4-6 June 2025. The conference aims to disseminate knowledge and stimulate studies on the Southeast Asian region within Italy.
On 4 June, Dato’ Zahid delivered a keynote speech, online from Prishtina, entitled “Malaysia’s Chairmanship of ASEAN 2025 and ASEAN Community Vision 2045” - highlighting Malaysia’s theme of “Inclusivity and Sustainability”; priorities across ASEAN’s three pillars; and key takeaways from the 46th ASEAN Summit held in Kuala Lumpur from 26–27 May 2025. The presentation was followed by a Q&A session featuring discussions on the impact of US tariffs; ASEAN Centrality; the South China Sea; and ASEAN’s role in addressing regional conflicts.
The support by the Embassy is part of efforts to actively engage the wider Italian and European academic and scholarly community on Southeast Asia, as well as to raise awareness and share information on Malaysia’s 2025 Chairmanship of ASEAN and ASEAN’s future vision.
