Second Conference of Countries Hosting the World’s Humanitarian Hubs in Brindisi, on 28 November

Malaysia continues to be a crucial humanitarian hub. At the Second Conference of Countries Hosting the World’s Humanitarian Hubs in Brindisi, on 28 November, Dato’ Zahid, in his capacity as Malaysian Permanent Representative to the WFP, expressed Malaysia’s continued support to the United Nations Humanitarian Response Depot in Kuala Lumpur (UNHRD KL). He also conveyed the message that facilitating humanitarian operations and the strengthening of global logistics networks through streamlined customs procedures and regulatory compliance requires upholding national laws, security requirements and responsible data governance.
The UNHRD is a global network of 5 hubs, operated by the World Food Programme (WFP), that pre-positions and rapidly deploys emergency supplies for the entire humanitarian community during crises, ensuring quick access to aid. UNHRD KL is the regional hub for Asia and Oceania.
In addition to UNHRD KL, Malaysia also hosts the ASEAN Disaster Emergency Logistics System (ASEAN-DELS), the region’s primary stockpile and coordination hub; and has been hosting the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) Asia-Pacific Logistics Hub in Port Klang since 1998.
