On 22 June, Ms Nidyakala Manian, Chargé d’Affaires a.i., and Ms Emelia Tay Ling Imm, Agriculture Attaché, attended the special address delivered by His Holiness Pope Leo XIV at the headquarters of the World Food Programme (WFP) in Rome.
In his address, Pope Leo XIV reaffirmed that access to adequate food is a fundamental human right and called for greater international commitment to addressing hunger and malnutrition. He also expressed appreciation to governments, international organisations, humanitarian workers and partners supporting the work of WFP, while underscoring the importance of solidarity, multilateral cooperation and sustained efforts to address the root causes of food insecurity, including conflict and instability.
Malaysia hosts one of the five United Nations Humanitarian Response Depots (UNHRD) managed by WFP. Located in Subang, Selangor, the facility serves as a strategic humanitarian logistics hub, supporting the rapid deployment of relief supplies and emergency assistance across the Asia-Pacific region.
