Courtesy Call by Mr. Ikmal Hazlan bin Ikmal Hisham, Founder of the Trading Card Game Kuala Lumpur (TCGKL)

21 February 2025 – Mr. Ikmal Hazlan bin Ikmal Hisham, Founder of Trading Card Game Kuala Lumpur (TCGKL), paid a courtesy call on Mr. Anwar Udzir, Deputy Chief of Mission. During the meeting, both sides discussed the expansion of the trading card game industry and explored potential collaborations between Malaysia and Japan to position Malaysia as the premier hub for trading card games in Southeast Asia.

The global trading card game industry has a market valuation of USD 10.3 billion and continues to grow, driven by increasing demand for collectible and digital card games. Recognizing Japan’s dominance in the industry, Mr. Ikmal Hazlan highlighted Malaysia’s strategic location, emerging gaming ecosystem, and growing community of game developers and enthusiasts as key factors that could enhance collaboration with Japanese companies.

Mr. Anwar Udzir welcomed the initiative, emphasizing Malaysia’s commitment to supporting the creative industry and fostering innovation through government incentives and industry-driven collaborations.

The Embassy expressed its support for strengthening industry ties between Malaysia and Japan and looks forward to further engagements that could contribute to the growth of Malaysia’s gaming and creative economy.
