PRESS RELEASE: Malaysia Fair Osaka Boosts Promotion of Visit Malaysia Year 2026 in Japan
The Embassy of Malaysia in Japan successfully organised the Malaysia Fair 2025 at Lalaport Expocity, Osaka from 27 to 29 June 2025. This fifth edition of the annual festival is Malaysia’s largest event in Japan, showcasing the nation’s rich cultural heritage, culinary diversity, and traditions under the theme “All About Malaysia”.
The opening ceremony was officiated by His Excellency Dato’ Shahril Effendi Abd Ghany, Ambassador of Malaysia to Japan, on 28 June 2025. Also present were Mr. Ichisaka Hirofumi, Senior Executive Director of Osaka Prefecture, representatives from the Consulates-General of ASEAN countries, and strategic partners from both Malaysia and Japan.
For the first time, the Malaysia Fair was held in Osaka as part of Malaysia’s participation in the ongoing World Expo 2025 in the city. The festival also served as a key promotional initiative for Visit Malaysia Year 2026 in Japan, aimed at attracting more Japanese tourists to Malaysia.
In his remarks, Dato’ Shahril highlighted that over 130,000 Japanese tourists visited Malaysia between January and April 2025, a 21% increase compared to the same period last year. He warmly invited more Japanese travellers to experience Malaysia and enjoy its vibrant culture, natural sustainability, culinary delights, and the warmth of its people.
Over the course of the three-day event, visitors were treated to vibrant cultural performances, while also enjoying iconic Malaysian dishes served by food trucks and exploring a wide variety of Malaysian products and services showcased at exhibition booths. Malaysia Fair 2025 also featured cooking demonstrations, tourism package promotions, traditional games, and lucky draws offering attractive prizes including round-trip flight tickets to Malaysia.
The success of Malaysia Fair 2025 received an overwhelmingly positive response and further strengthened Malaysia–Japan bilateral ties through deeper cultural engagement and greater public appreciation of Malaysia’s unique attractions.
