Public Diplomacy Programme at Toyo University
25 November 2025 – The Embassy of Malaysia was invited to deliver a talk on Malaysia’s multicultural co-existence and ASEAN Chairmanship 2025 at Toyo University. The session brought together approximately 250 students and faculty members from the Faculty of Global and Regional Studies, particularly those enrolled in the International and Regional Studies Basic II course.
The programme began with a vibrant performance by 30 students who had taken part in a study visit to Malaysia in September and October 2025. The group presented a medley of Malay folk songs, showcasing their cultural exposure and appreciation of Malaysia’s diversity. Mr. Jeffry Meyer, First Secretary, opened the session with an overview of Malaysia’s history, multicultural identity, and longstanding relations with Japan. This was followed by a presentation on ASEAN, during which he highlighted Malaysia’s priorities and key focus areas as ASEAN Chair for 2025.
The engagement provided a valuable platform for students to deepen their understanding of Malaysia’s societal harmony, regional leadership, and shared interests with Japan. The interactive exchanges throughout the session also encouraged students to learn more about education mobility, cultural diplomacy, and Malaysia’s role in regional cooperation.
