Kenya International Trade Exhibition (KITE) is one of the popular and   general consumer fair organized in the country. KITE 2015 was divided into several expos namely Food and Agricultural Products (FOODAGRO), Medical Devices (MEDEXPO) and Industrial Machinery (INDUSMACH). KITE 2015 attracted participants from over 20 countries and 90 exhibitors from Asia (mainly Middle East), Africa, Europe and USA.  As it has been in previous exhibitions, majority of exhibitors were drawn from China, India, Turkey and UAE as as new players such as Colombia and Japan. The exhibition also attracted participation of two companies from Malaysia and one agency which has a regional office in Durban, South Africa. The Malaysian participants were involved in medical devices such as catheters, infusion fluids, syringes, bandages, Industrial boilers and palm oil promotion. In addition to media advertisement by the organizer, the Trade Section (MATRADE) of the High Commission in Nairobi circulated information to potential Kenyan companies requested them to meet with Malaysian companies participating in the exhibition.

Market visits and participation in trade fairs has proved to be one of the effective ways of penetrating into the Kenyan market in particular and the entire East Africa in general. While the advent of internet has simplified the way business is conducted, there is a need for Malaysian companies to visit the market as this will enhance networking as well as to have a face to face encounter with potential importers. Kenya has a lot of potential that Malaysian companies could explore including construction materials, healthcare products, electrical and electronics, food processing and renewable energy.

Malaysian companies are encouraged to participate in such exhibition as through these efforts they will be able to enter and consolidate their foothold into this market. The High Commission of Malaysia in Nairobi will be ready to assist the Malaysian companies interested not only in participating in such exhibition but also those interested in venturing into this region.
