As Chair of the ASEAN Committee in Seoul (ACS), Thailand once again took the initiative to convene a consultative meeting between the ACS and the Korea Immigration Service (KIS) on 23 June 2026 at Hotel Naru, Mapo, Seoul. The meeting was attended by representatives from all ASEAN Member States. The Embassy of Malaysia in Seoul was represented by its Chargé d'Affaires a.i. at the meeting. The engagement served as a follow-up to the previous dialogue held in August 2025 and provided a useful platform for ASEAN missions to engage directly with KIS on a range of immigration-related matters affecting ASEAN nationals residing in or travelling to the Republic of Korea (ROK).
The engagement could be viewed as a constructive public relations exercise for both the ACS and the KIS. On the one hand, it provided the ACS with a platform to convey its concerns directly to the Commissioner. On the other, it afforded the KIS an opportunity to demonstrate its outreach to ASEAN as a collective grouping, which constitutes the second-largest foreign community in the ROK after those from East Asia.
