55th National Day Reception HOSTED BY THE EMBASSY OF MALAYSIA IN BEIRUT, LEBANON
His Excellency Ambassador ILANGO KARUPPANNAN with his wife Mrs. Nirmala Devi Ilango hosted a reception on 11 September 2012 to commemorate Malaysia’s 55th Anniversary of Independence at the UNESCO Palace in Beirut.
The Honourable Dr. Qassem Hachem represented the Government of Lebanon as the guest of honor. In addition, members of parliament, senior government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of international and regional organizations, Malaysia’s Honorary Consul Dato’ Omar Jundi, and other dignitaries also atttended the reception.
In his speech, His Excellency Ambassador ILANGO KARUPPANNAN touched on Malaysia-Lebanon relations and the efforts being undertaken to promote bilateral as well as economic and trade relations between both countries. He expressed confidence that both countries would be able to harness the full potential to enhance bilateral relations once the regional situation improves. He also expressed Malaysia’s commitment to Lebanon’s peace and security refering to the presence of 910 Malaysian troops who are currently serving in the UNIFIL.
