MALAYSIA DELIVERED HUMANITARIAN AID TO SYRIAN REFUGEES IN JORDAN

Malaysia has delivered humanitarian aid to 100 Syrian refugee families on 11 February 2016. Ambassador of Malaysia to Jordan, H.E. Zakri Jaafar distributed the aid consisting of blankets and powdered milk for children to each family representative. The subsequent delivery of aid to the affected Syrian refugee families would be carried out around Jordan beginning 13 February 2016.

Jordan Hashemite Charity Organisation (JHCO) is assisting the Embassy in identifying the beneficiaries living among the host communities, namely those living outside of the refugee camps who are in need of the intended humanitarian assistance. JHCO is an NGO established by a Royal Decree to serve as the lead coordinator in handling matters concerning the provision of humanitarian aid to refugees in cooperation with the Government of Jordan.

This humanitarian aid programme is the initiative of Y.A.Bhg. Datin Paduka Seri Rosmah Mansor, in her capacity as Patron of the Global Children's Wellbeing Fund (GCWF) and as President of the Welfare Association of Wives of Ministers and Deputy Ministers (BAKTI) Malaysia. The GCWF and BAKTI Malaysia contributed USD 200,000 and USD 40,000 respectively, for distribution to the Syrian refugees in Jordan. Malaysia's humanitarian assistance to Jordan is part of a larger contribution of USD 600,000 (RM 2.7 million) by the GCWF and BAKTI Malaysia for the Syrian refugees in Lebanon and Jordan.
