57th NATIONAL DAY CELEBRATION IN COLOMBO, SRI LANKA

 

 

In celebration of the 57th Anniversary of the birth of the nation on 31st August 2014, Malaysians residing in Sri Lanka gathered at a Merdeka Day Flag Hoisting Ceremony at Rumah Malaysia. Staff members of the High Commission, members of the local press and print media also attended the above event.

 

During the ceremony, H.E. Azmi Zainuddin, High Commissioner of Malaysia remarked that he was very pleased to observe that fellow Malaysians residing in Sri Lanka have shown great pride in celebrating the 57th Anniversary of the National Day under the theme “Malaysia: Di Sini Lahirnya Sebuah Cinta”.  He encouraged Malaysians to continue to excel in their respective fields and uphold the nation’s good image and reputation while being abroad.  H.E. Azmi was also pleased to note that Malaysia and Sri Lanka enjoy warm and friendly ties and the two countries would continue to cooperation in a multitude of areas for the benefit of their citizens.

 

The gathering also observed a moment of silence in memory of the passengers and crew of the ill-fated Malaysia Airlines flights MH370 and MH17. H.E. Azmi Zainuddin paid tribute to all those affected by the tragic incidents, which not only deeply affected fellow Malaysians, but also those from around the globe who have lost their loved ones.
