In conjunction with the celebration of the 55th Anniversary of Malaysia’s Independence, the High Commission hosted a National Day reception at the Taj Samudra Hotel in Colombo on Thursday, 6 September 2012 to celebrate the occasion.

The Reception was attended by approximately 260 guests, which consist of Ministers, members of the diplomatic corps, senior government officials, business community, media representatives and the Malaysian community residing in Sri Lanka.
The Sri Lankan Government was represented by the Honourable D.E.W Gunasekara, Senior Minister for Human Resources of Sri Lanka, who was the Chief Guest of the evening. H.E. Amb. Azmi Zainuddin, High Commissioner and Hon. Minister Gunasekara proposed toasts to the Heads of State of the two countries before ending the observance of the formalities with a cake-cutting ceremony.
The guests were entertained by the Mal Dancer Nusantara cultural troupe comprising six dancers, who performed a number of Malaysian traditional dances. A good mix of Malaysian favourite cuisines and other delicacies such as satay, nasi lemak and rendang daging, prepared by two visiting Malaysian Chefs from Langkawi, were also served to the guests.
