Distinguished Speaker Series on the Law and Dynamics of Sustainability: The Case of Palm Oil, 11 September 2026

On 11 September 2026, the Embassy organised the inaugural Distinguished Speaker Series, entitled “The Law and Dynamics of Sustainability: The Case of Palm Oil” at the Chancery. The event was graced by two distinguished academicians from Malaysia: Dr. Helena Varkkey, the Prince Claus Chair in Equity and Development at the International Institute of Social Studies of Erasmus University Rotterdam (ISS), and Dr. Siti Hafsyah Idris, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Law, UiTM.

In essence, the event aimed to deepen understanding of the global palm oil sector from political and legal perspectives, set against Malaysia's broader policy and certification responses, particularly within the context of the Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO) standards.

Following the substantive presentations and engaging Q&A session, the audience was treated to a delicious nasi lemak lunch!
