Courtesy Call by Deputy Head of Mission, Embassy of Ireland

On 29 May 2025, Mr. Declan Johnston, Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Ireland, paid a courtesy call on Mr. Mohd Syafik Firdaus, Deputy Head of Mission at the High Commission of Malaysia.

During the meeting, Mr. Johnston conveyed the Government of Ireland’s intention to establish a permanent diplomatic mission in Islamabad, reflecting Ireland’s commitment to enhancing its presence and engagement in Pakistan. He also provided an overview of the current state and future prospects of Ireland–Pakistan bilateral relations, highlighting areas of mutual interest and cooperation.

In response, Mr. Syafik welcomed the initiative and shared his views on the proposed establishment of a new Irish embassy in Islamabad. He expressed Malaysia’s support for initiatives aimed at strengthening diplomatic ties in the region and emphasized the importance of continued collaboration between all partners.

Mr. Syafik also briefed Mr. Johnston on the status of Malaysia–Pakistan bilateral relations, noting the enduring partnership between the two nations and identifying avenues for further cooperation in trade, education, and people-to-people exchanges.

Both sides took the opportunity to exchange views on the current regional developments, underscoring the importance of dialogue, stability, and constructive engagement in promoting peace and prosperity across the region.

The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both parties reaffirming their commitment to strengthening bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
