On 9 July 2026, H.E. Ambassador Dato’ Mohammad Azhar Mazlan, High Commissioner of Malaysia to Pakistan, received a courtesy call from Mr. Shahzad Waseem, former Leader of the House in the Senate of Pakistan and former Senator representing Punjab.
The meeting provided an opportunity for both sides to reaffirm the longstanding friendship between Malaysia and Pakistan while exploring avenues to strengthen bilateral cooperation, particularly in the healthcare sector.
During the meeting, both parties exchanged views on enhancing collaboration in healthcare and medical services to support the recruitment and employment of Pakistani workers in Malaysia. They acknowledged that an efficient, transparent, and internationally recognised medical screening system is essential to ensuring that foreign workers are medically fit and able to meet Malaysia's employment requirements.
The discussion also emphasised the importance of strengthening cooperation among the relevant authorities, healthcare institutions, and accredited medical service providers in both countries. Enhancing coordination in pre-employment medical examinations, health certification, and compliance with Malaysia's medical requirements would contribute to a more efficient recruitment process while safeguarding the health and well-being of migrant workers.
In addition to healthcare cooperation, the meeting briefly touched on the importance of further strengthening Malaysia–Pakistan bilateral relations through constructive engagement and collaboration in areas of mutual interest. Both parties expressed confidence that closer institutional partnerships would create greater opportunities for cooperation and deliver mutual benefits.
H.E. Ambassador Dato’ Mohammad Azhar Mazlan reaffirmed Malaysia's commitment to working closely with Pakistani stakeholders to support initiatives that enhance healthcare cooperation and facilitate safe, orderly, and responsible labour mobility. Mr. Shahzad Waseem welcomed closer collaboration between the two countries and expressed his support for initiatives aimed at strengthening the healthcare sector and improving the overall recruitment ecosystem.
