On 18 June 2026, His Excellency Ambassador Dato' Mohammad Azhar Mazlan, High Commissioner of Malaysia to Pakistan, paid an official visit to the Multan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI).
The High Commissioner and delegation were warmly received by the President of MCCI, Mr. Mian Bakhtawar Tanveer Sheikh, Vice President Mr. Muhammad Azhar Baloch, members of the Executive Committee and representatives of the local business community.
During the engagement, the High Commissioner highlighted the longstanding friendship between Malaysia and Pakistan, which is underpinned by shared historical, cultural and religious ties. He reaffirmed Malaysia's commitment to further expanding bilateral cooperation in trade, investment and industrial collaboration while encouraging stronger business-to-business partnerships between Malaysian companies and enterprises in South Punjab.
The High Commissioner noted that Pakistan presents significant opportunities for Malaysian investors, particularly given its large domestic market, young workforce and strategic geographic location. He also underscored the importance of maximising the benefits of the Malaysia–Pakistan Closer Economic Partnership Agreement (MPCEPA) to facilitate greater bilateral trade and investment.
The discussions identified several sectors with strong potential for collaboration, including agriculture, halal industry development, food processing, palm oil and edible oils, textiles, fertilisers, technology transfer, education and tourism. Both sides also exchanged views on promoting joint ventures, investment facilitation and commercial exchanges that would create mutual economic benefits.
Representatives of the Multan Chamber of Commerce and Industry expressed their appreciation for the High Commission's engagement with the business community and welcomed enhanced cooperation with Malaysia. They highlighted South Punjab's economic strengths in agriculture, textiles, agro-based industries and tourism, and conveyed their interest in expanding commercial linkages with Malaysian counterparts.
The visit also provided an opportunity to discuss initiatives aimed at increasing business delegations, trade promotion activities and institutional collaboration between Malaysian and Pakistani chambers of commerce. Both sides agreed that closer engagement between the private sectors would complement the strong bilateral relationship enjoyed by the two countries.
The High Commission of Malaysia remains committed to promoting trade, investment and economic diplomacy across Pakistan, including through engagements with regional chambers of commerce and industry, in line with Malaysia's efforts to strengthen sustainable economic partnerships and foster shared prosperity with Pakistan.
