Birth/Marriage Registration
REGISTRATION OF BIRTH & REGISTRATION OF MARRIAGE AND MARRIAGE CEREMONY
Malaysians born in Sindh (Karachi) & Balochistan Province can be registered at the Consulate General of Malaysia in Karachi on the conditions that:
- The father of the child to be registered is a Malaysian citizen.
- Registration is made within one (1) year from the date of birth.
Apart from bringing the child to the Consulate, documents required for registration are as follows:
- Passport of parents.
- Identification card of parents.
- Birth Certificate of parents.
- Proof of marriage (Marriage Certificate/photograph or invitation card if available).
- Acknowledgement letter or Birth Certificate from the hospital where the child was born.
Form W (Letter for Birth Abroad) will be issued by the Consulate. A copy will be sent to the National Registration Department of Malaysia to be recorded.
For registration made beyond the period of one (1) year after the date of birth, procedures 30-31 still applies. The Consulate will forward the application to the National Registration Department of Malaysia for approval. Feedback of the application (approved or otherwise) will be notified to the applicant.
REGISTRATION OF MARRIAGE AND MARRIAGE CEREMONY
Non-Muslim marriage can be registered at the Consulate General of Malaysia in Karachi provided that one or both of the couple is a Malaysian citizen. Registration of marriage must be made within the period of six (6) months after the marriage ceremony.
Supporting documents required for registration are as follows:
o Passport of the couple (original document and photocopies).
o Malaysian Identification Card.
o Marriage Certificate.
o Proof of Marriage (Photograph or invitation card if available)
o Two (2) witnesses that had witnessed the marriage ceremony.
Registration will be processed by the Consulate and two (2) copies of the Malaysian Marriage Certificate (original document and photocopy) will be issued to the couple.
For non-Muslim couples, marriage ceremony can be conducted by a Consulate Officer who is appointed by the National Registration Department of Malaysia. A letter of acknowledgement of the marital status of the couple (single/widow/widower) is required for the ceremony.
For the marriage ceremony of Muslim couples (where one/both of the couple is a Malaysian citizen) that is done abroad, it needs to be registered at the religious office in respective states once back in Malaysia.
