H.E Ambassador Dato’ Mohd Zamri Mohd Kassim, accompanied by Mr. Abdullah Zawawi Tahir, Consul General of Malaysia, Davao City with 3 officers from the Embassy of Malaysia in Manila had a meeting with Honorable Oscar Moreno, Mayor of Cagayan de Oro, Philippines. Mayor Moreno congratulated Malaysia for its role as one of the major players in the Asian region as well as Malaysia’s chairmanship of ASEAN 2015.
Mayor Moreno briefed the following:
Northern Mindanao is the fifth fastest growth rate area in the Philippines with Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) up to 7.2% (Industry sector contributed around 6.8 to 9% and service sector is about 5.5 to 8%). It also contributes 28% of Philippine GDP;
CDO is strategically located between the Island of Mindanao and Visayas. It will provide new gateway to increase flow of people and products as well as connectivity between CDO and other provinces;
40% of Philippines food comes from Northern Mindanao with major food companies such as San Miguel, Bounty and Del Monte;
CDO offers various business opportunities such as tourism, oil palm plantations and information and communication technology (ICT); and
CDO is also planning for city extension at Barangay Lumbia where Oro Central will be opened as a new center for development in CDO.
