DEMONSTRATION IN FRONT OF THE EMBASSY OF MALAYSIA
ON 5 MARCH 2013 IN MANILA, THE PHILIPPINES
On 5 March 2013, a group of 40 demonstrators gathered outside the Embassy of Malaysia in Makati City, Manila. The demonstrators were believed to represent a small number of local interest groups to voice their views about the situation in Lahad Datu in Sabah, Malaysia. The demonstration which began at 10:10am, ended at 11.30am without any untoward incident.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia expresses its utmost appreciation to the Government of the Republic of the Philippines, in particular the Philippine National Police (PNP), for providing the necessary security protection to the Malaysian Embassy in Manila and also to the Malaysian Consulate General in Davao City.
As the current security situation at the Embassy and Consulate General, as well as their immediate vicinity remains calm and is under control, both Diplomatic Missions will remain open unless the Ministry of Foreign Affairs notifies otherwise.
The two Malaysian Diplomatic Missions have been liaising and cooperating closely with the relevant Philippines authorities in monitoring and assessing the security situation to ensure the safety and wellbeing of Malaysian citizens and interests in the Philippines.
In light of the developments in Lahad Datu in Sabah, Malaysia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs encourages all Malaysian citizens in the Philippines to pay utmost attention to their safety and security and exercise additional precaution in their daily activities.
