Malaysia participated during the 16th United Nations Internet Governance Forum (UN IGF) which was held from the 6th until the 10th December 2021 in Katowice, Poland. YB Dato’ Johari Abdul, Member of Parliament Malaysia for Constituency of Sungai Petani led the delegation during the parliamentary track meetings. The Embassy of Malaysia in Warsaw was represented by Ms Nur Atikah Anuar, the First Secretary. The opening ceremony of UN IGF 2021 was held on 7 December 2021 in Katowice International Conference Centre.
A total of three (3) parliamentary meetings and one (1) roundtable involving Parliamentarians globally were held from 7 December to 8 December 2021. YB Dato’ Johari made an intervention statement in the second and third meetings on Malaysia’s position on Data Protection and AI. During the five (5) days Forum, there were 300 events, activities and initiatives such as lectures, debates and workshops devoted to the digital world. The discussions ranged from introducing legislation through currently available technologies to future technologies such as quantum technologies and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
