Haj Ministers Meeting for 1435 Hijrah
JEDDAH - Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, YB Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom headed a delegation from Tabung Haji (TH) to the annual Haj Ministers meeting with his counterpart, HE Dr. Bandar Bin Muhammad Hajjar, Minister of Haj Saudi Arabia on 5 March 2014 in Jeddah. The meeting was also attended by Mr. Mohd Khalid Abbasi Abdul Razak, Consul General along with Datuk Paduka Ismee Ismail, Managing Director/Chief Operating Officer of TH, Dato Syed Saleh Syed Abd Rahman, Senior Director of Haj TH and Hj. Redzuan Sabaruddin, Consul Haj.
During the meeting, Lembaga Tabung Haji has sought an additional quota of 10,000 pilgrims for this year's pilgrimage as there are more than 1.3 million Malaysians registered with TH as of to date. The Saudi government reduced the Malaysian haj quota by 20 percent to 22,320 pilgrims last year due to massive construction of the holy cities of Medina and Makkah, including the expansion of the Grand Mosque. The reduction of haj quota is expected to continue until the completion of the projects in 2016.
Meanwhile, the Saudi government would introduce 'E-Haji', an online application for haj visas this year. On umrah quota for the fasting month of Ramadan, the Saudi government had fixed the quota at 500,000 pilgrims and each country could only send one group at a time.
YB. Minister congratulated the Saudi government for the smooth and successful haj last year, and conveyed his heartfelt appreciation for the excellent services accorded to Malaysian pilgrims thus far.
