MATRADE SPECIALISED MARKETING MISSION (SMM) 2015
JEDDAH - In conjunction with the Saudi Food, Hotel and Hospitality Arabia (SFHHA), Jeddah, 13-15 April 2015, MATRADE Jeddah with close collaboration of the Consulate General organized a marketing mission for 6 companies and 11 business people from Malaysia. Saudi Arabia being the single-largest market for food and beverages in the Gulf region, accounting for 63% of all of the region’s imports with the value of the Saudi halal food estimated at US$ 6 billion annually, it is timely for Malaysian companies to be in the Kingdom, to explore for business partnerships with their counterparts.
The Consul General, Mr. Mohd Khalid Abbasi Abdul Razak headed the Malaysian business delegation for a roundtable business meeting with members of Jeddah Chamber of Commerce & Industry (JCCI) on 15 April 2015. The Consul General stated that the participating companies are offering their products and services that include various franchise opportunities consist of art education, premium laundry services, north Indian cuisine as well as quick service restaurant. No doubt, the trade mission is part of the continuing efforts to strengthen bilateral trade relationship of Malaysia with Saudi Arabia, and the business meeting is an important networking platform for expanding trade activities for both countries.
In terms of trade, bilateral trade relations between Malaysia and the Kingdom had increased significantly from US$260 million in 1990 to US$4.019 billion in 2014 (in span of 24 years). Globally, Saudi Arabia was Malaysia’s 19th largest trading partner, 23th largest export destination and 17th largest import source.
The Consul General reiterated that there is much room for expansion of both countries trade relationship in many areas such as for machinery, appliances and parts, building and construction materials, palm oil, processed food and beverages as well as wood products. Malaysia also offers a wide range of services including property development, construction, engineering services, power generation, Islamic banking and financial services, information communication technology, franchise, healthcare, education to name a few.
