JEDDAH: His Excellency Tan Sri Iyad Ameen Madani, Secretary-General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) headed a 6 member’s delegation for an official visit to Malaysia from 14 to 16 April 2015. The maiden visit was organized by the OIC Division with close collaboration of the Consulate General of Malaysia in Jeddah.

During his three-day visit, H.E. Tan Sri Iyad Madani paid courtesy calls on YAB Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib bin Tun Abdul Razak, Prime Minister of Malaysia; YB Dato’ Sri Anifah Hj. Aman, Minister of Foreign Affairs; YB Dato’ Seri Jamil Khir Baharom, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department; YB Dato’ Seri Idris Jusoh, Minister of Education II; and YB Datuk Hj. Ahmad bin Hj. Maslan, Deputy Minister of Finance I.

During the call on YAB Prime Minister, both sides exchanged views on issues affecting the Muslim countries, particularly the situation in Palestine and Yemen; and the Muslim communities in non-OIC Member States, namely Myanmar, Philippines, and Thailand.  They also discussed the way forward to further strengthen the OIC and its cooperation with OIC Member States, including Malaysia.

YB Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Secretary-General of OIC had a fruitful discussion on the strategic cooperation between Malaysia and the OIC.  They also deliberated on the challenges faced by the Muslim Ummah and agreed on the importance of promoting the moderation approach in addressing the issue of Islamophobia and combating extremism.

The Secretary-General of OIC also held discussions with the respective Ministers on the issues under their portfolios.

In addition, H.E. Tan Sri Iyad Madani delivered a talk entitled “Overview of the OIC and its Activities” at the International Islamic University Malaysia’s Global Forum (IIUM Global Forum); and witnessed the production of halal pharmaceutical products at the Chemical Company of Malaysia (CCM) Pharmaceuticals Sdn. Bhd. in Bangi.

The successful visit by H.E. Tan Sri Iyad Madani is a testimony to Malaysia’s firm commitment to OIC.  Since Malaysia joined the OIC in 1969, it continues to play an active role in assisting the Organization in the strengthening of Islamic solidarity among its Member States through several initiatives and programmes in various sectors.

Malaysia will continue to support the OIC, under the stewardship of H.E. Tan Sri Iyad Madani.
