The joint conference organized by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) was held on Wednesday, 5 November 2014, at the OIC Headquarters in Jeddah announced an urgent financial assistance to countries affected by Ebola epidemic. In addition to the financial pledges, the assistance also included material resources, equipment and supplies, as well as trained heath workers and associated work force. Malaysia was represented by the Hon. Dato Seri Dr, Hilmi Yahaya, Deputy Minister of Health, accompanied by Mr. Mohd Khalid Abbasi Abdul Razak, Consul General and Consulate officials. Malaysia reported to the meeting on the recent commitments of the Government in sending more than 20 million medical rubber gloves to five African nations battling the deadly Ebola virus, namely Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Nigeria and Congo, which will arrive in the countries by first week November. Hon Deputy Minister also pledges to address the crucial shortage of health workers faced by the affected countries by sharing Malaysia’s experience in dealing with the dengue endemic.
