Kuala Lumpur, Oct 14, 2011 - The Executive office of the Malaysian-Sudanese Friendship Association (MASUFA) hold its first meeting last Thursday evening following the selection of its members by the General Assembly, chaired by DatukMustapha Yaakub, the Chairman of the Foreign Relations Department of UMNO, in the presence of Dato' Maznah Binti Mazlan, Deputy Minister of Human Resources.

MASUFA was established through coordination with the Sudanese Embassy in Kuala Lumpur during the recent visit of the Secretary General of the Sudanese Council for International People's Friendship (CIPF), Ahmed Abdul Rahman Mohammed, to Malaysia last June as part of the efforts to reactivate the People's diplomacy and to push forward the economic, cultural and social relations linking Sudan and Malaysia.

It is to be noted that the MASUFA is currently chaired by Datuk Mustapha Yaakub, an UMNO Supreme Council Member, with the former General Manager of PETRONAS Sudan Country Office, Dato' Hashim Wahid, Dato' Suhaidi Bin Sulaiman and a number of Malaysian nationals who had been working or studying in Sudan.

MASUFA was established in the early 1990s and was officially registered in 1994. In 1995 it succeeded to organize a Sudanese Cultural and Investment week in the Malaysian Capital in collaboration with its Sudanese counterpart.
