THE EMBASSY OF MALAYSIA ATTENDED A THE WEBINAR SERIES ORGANIZED BY MALAYSIAN PALM OIL COUNCIL (MPOC) ENTITLED “COULD SUB-SAHARAN AFRICAN BE NEXT FRONTIER FOR MALAYSIAN PALM OIL” ON 23 SEPTEMBER 2020

On 23 September 2020, H.E. Mohamad Razdan Jamil, Ambassador of Malaysia accompanied by Mr. Mohd Faiz Firdaus Kamaruddin, First Secretary participated at the Webinar Series organized by the Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC) entitled “Could Sub-Saharan African be the Next Frontier for Malaysian Palm Oil”.

Moderator: Mr. Faisal Iqbal, MPOC

The panellists comprised of the following personalities:

  1. Mr. Nor Iskahar Nordin, MPOC;
  2. Mr. Dawie Theron, Sime Darby Oil South Africa;
  3. Ms. Fatima Alimohamed, African Brand Worrior; and
  4. Mr. Abah Ofon, 3XG UK Consulting Ltd.

The discussions were fruitful and touched on the opportunities as well as challenges from the perspective of the Malaysian palm oil industry. Noting that several countries in Africa particularly Nigeria and Ghana have substantial demands for palm oil, there is still a need to explore new frontiers such as Sudan which can offer alternative prospects for the Malaysia. The Eastern African region has a huge potential as market demand for palm oil derivatives for their industries such as food, cosmetics, cleaning products and pharmaceuticals needs to be explored. Thus, it is hope that MPOC and the Embassy can work together to promote Malaysian palm oil in Sudan as a gateway to East Africa specifically and Africa generally.

The Embassy wishes to take this opportunity to thank MPOC for organising this webinar series and look forward to participating in future events.
