The Embassy of Malaysia in Belgrade participated as one of the co-sponsors of the International Research Society of Spinal Deformities (IRSSD) 2026 Scientific Meeting, held in Novi Sad, Republic of Serbia. IRSSD is an international scientific organisation dedicated to advancing research, clinical practice and multidisciplinary collaboration in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of scoliosis and other spinal deformities.
The Embassy was represented by Mrs. Carmallia Budiaty Che Embi, Chargé d’Affaires, who delivered the welcoming remarks on behalf of the Embassy. In her address, she reaffirmed the Embassy’s commitment to supporting knowledge-sharing, international cooperation and scientific advancement in the treatment of scoliosis and spinal deformities. She highlighted that conferences such as IRSSD and ScoSym provide valuable platforms for specialists from Serbia, the Balkan region and beyond to exchange expertise, research findings and best practices.
Mrs. Carmallia also highlighted the Embassy’s commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation and people-to-people ties between Malaysia and Serbia through healthcare, education and professional development. She acknowledged the longstanding collaboration between Malaysia and Dr. Nikola Jevtic, the organiser of the conference, whose work in Malaysia has contributed significantly to the training of Malaysian therapists and healthcare professionals specialising in the treatment of scoliosis and spinal deformities. She further noted Dr. Jevtic’s collaboration with the University of Malaya in promoting awareness of the early detection and management of scoliosis through professional training and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
The Embassy also took the opportunity to promote Visit Malaysia Year 2026, inviting conference participants to experience Malaysia’s rich cultural heritage, warm hospitality and world-class healthcare services.
