44th DIPLOMATIC RED CROSS BAZAAR 2011, SIAM PARAGON, 26 & 27 FEBRUARY 2011

The Embassy of Malaysia in Bangkok through its PERWAKILAN (Ladies’ Club) had once again participated in the annual Diplomatic Red Cross Charity Bazaar 2011 held at Siam Paragon on 26 & 27 February 2011. Consistent with past practices, the annual Bazaar was officially opened by HRH Crown Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn in the morning of its first day where HRH Crown Princess Sirindhorn also took the opportunity to visit all booths. PERWAKILAN has been participating in the said charity bazaar for many years as part of its charity efforts as well as to promote Malaysia by selling various cuisines and items so peculiarly linked to Malaysia.

Nasi lemak and mee hoon goreng as well as karipap were snapped by the visitors like hot cakes. More than 350 packets of nasi lemak and mee hoon goreng and an additional 150 packets of karipap were sold within those two days. Meanwhile, a special corner was also allocated for a Malaysian-owned Teh Tarik stall to operate from the booth. Teh tarik proved to be popular drinks among the visitors where more than 500 cups were sold. On top of the mouth-watering cuisines, PERWAKILAN also put on sale various other products such as batik, key chains, head scuffs and Malaysian-made biscuits and chocolates sourced from the famous Beryl’s brand and those products were also proved to be very popular among the visitors.

The Malaysian booth was nicely decorated by the ladies with great emphasis being given on the need to enhance Malaysia’s image through the use of batik materials, flags, bunga manggar, wau and various posters depicting Malaysia’s uniqueness.

This year’s charity bazaar was participated by more than 50 Embassies where each strived hard to promote their own products at bargain prices. Judging from the success of this year’s edition, it is certain that PERWAKILAN will continue to throw its support to the charitable work spearheaded by the Red Cross Society in Bangkok and at the same time seize the opportunity to promote Malaysia in the eyes of local people and expatriates alike.
