BRIEFING BY MALAYSIAN ANTI-CORRUPTION COMMISSION 12 NOVEMBER 2010
In conjunction with the recently concluded 14th International Anti-Corruption Conference (IACC) held in Bangkok from 10 - 14 November 2010, the Embassy had organised a special briefing by the Chief Commissioner of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) as part of the efforts to remind and educate fellow staff at the Embassy on the danger of corruption.
2. Despite the busy schedule, YBhg. Dato’ Sri Abu Kassim Mohamad, Chief Commissioner of MACC agreed to conduct a special briefing session at the Embassy on the role and functions of MACC. The short briefing was followed by Q&A session where various issues ranging from the much awaited Whistle Blower Act, selectivity in carrying out its duties, the alleged double standard, MACC’s future plans and issues on integrity were posed by the Embassy’s staff to Dato’ Sri Abu Kassim. All were succinctly answered by the speaker to the satisfaction of the audience.
3. The effort to hold such session was applauded as it gave the Embassy’s staff the opportunity to interact directly with MACC and obtain the clarification from the horse’s mouth. Some important publications were also circulated for future reference. Given the success of the session, the Embassy would plan more briefing sessions by central government’s agencies in the future if they happen to be in town for any meetings.
