BRIEFING BY MALAYSIAN PALM OIL BOARD, 1 MARCH 2011

Following the short visit undertaken by Tn. Hj. Isa Mansor to Thailand, he had seized the opportunity to visit the Embassy and gave a briefing on the overall outlook of palm oil industry and market in Malaysia as well as abroad. Tn. Hj. Isa Mansor is the Senior Principal Research Officer at MPOB who has been actively involved in promoting the usage and advantage of palm oil especially within the ASEAN region.

2.         While some aspects of the briefing were technical in nature, the officers at the Embassy generally had greatly benefited from the briefing as evident from the level of interaction between the two sides. Contrary to the propaganda by its opponents, palm oil actually has more nutritional values compared to its rival and its extra virgin oil can be taken as supplement to replace the more expensive vitamin E capsules in the market. Certainly the hour-long briefing had enhanced the level of understanding among the officers at the Embassy and could be useful in engaging discussion with colleagues from the other Embassies.

3.         The above briefing session was held as part of the Embassy’s training programme for its officers and to benefit from the presence of high ranking officials from Malaysia who often come to Bangkok for various meetings.
