COURTESY CALL ON H.E. CHAIWUTI BANNAWAT MINISTER OF INDUSTRY, THAILAND
COURTESY CALL ON H.E. CHAIWUTI BANNAWAT
MINISTER OF INDUSTRY, THAILAND
17 AUGUST 2010
Ambassador Dato’ Husni Zai Yaacob paid a courtesy call on H.E. Chaiwuti Bannawat, Minister of Industry of Thailand on 18 August 2010 at the Parliament House. Also in attendance were Mr. Mohd Iqbal Mohd Noor (Economic Counsellor) and Mr. Nazarudin Ja’afar, First Secretary of the Embassy. From the Thai side, the presence of the Vice Minister of Industry, Deputy Permanent Secretary and several other senior officials reflected the importance they attached to this call.
2. The call which lasted about 20 minutes was timely as the Minister had just assumed the post about two months ago following the Cabinet reshuffle exercise in June 2010. It had accorded Ambassador Dato’ Husni Zai with the opportunity to discuss on a number of important issues relating to investments between the two countries as well as the concern faced by Malaysian investors in Thailand. Malaysia is the fifth largest investor in Thailand. It was also relayed that hopefully more Thai investors would capitalise from the investment opportunities in Malaysia particularly in areas where both countries have already established strong and solid cooperation like in rubber plantation and its related industries as well as in halal food production and marketing.
3. In responding to the issues raised, H.E. Chaiwuti expressed his agreement on the issues raised and was of the view that both countries had vast potential in further developing the investment sector and gave his assurance that the Industry Ministry and other related government agencies stood ready to cooperate with Malaysia to achieve the above goals.
4. The overall mood was very warm and jovial despite the tight schedule of the Minister who was actually in the midst of attending the parliamentary session and had to briefly excuse himself from the ongoing parliamentary session to receive Ambassador Dato’ Husni Zai.
