FAREWELL CALLS ON H.E. ABHISIT VEJJAJIVA & H.E. KASIT PIROMYA PRIME MINISTER & FOREIGN MINISTER OF THAILAND

FAREWELL CALLS ON H.E. ABHISIT VEJJAJIVA & H.E. KASIT PIROMYA

PRIME MINISTER & FOREIGN MINISTER OF THAILAND

6 SEPTEMBER 2010

H.E. Dato’Husni Zai Yaacob made a farewell call on H.E. Abhisit Vejjajiva, Prime Minister of Thailand at the Government House on 6 September 2010 as the former is scheduled to end his tour of duty as the Ambassador of Malaysia to the Kingdom of Thailand on 20 September 2010.

2.         During the call, Ambassador Dato’ Husni thanked PM Abhisit for the cooperation and support extended to the Embassy of Malaysia in Bangkok which had proven to be central in contributing to the strong and substantive bilateral relations between Malaysia and Thailand. Many important events had taken place for the past 2 years or so which witnessed the State Visit undertaken by the Yang diPertuan Agong in March 2009 and various visits by the Malaysian Prime Minister to ASEAN-related Summits and the 4th Annual Consultation hosted by Thailand. Needless to say, there were scores of other meetings held at ministerial levels held almost back-to-back, particularly, in 2009 which all had contributed significantly to the strengthening of bilateral relations between the two neighbouring countries.

3.                  In honouring Ambassador Dato’ Husni, a special farewell dinner was also hosted by H.E. Kasit Piromya, Foreign Minister of Thailand later in the evening of the same day. Prior to the dinner, a 30-minute discussion was held to discuss some of the outstanding bilateral matters which turned out to be very fruitful and productive especially in preparing both countries for the upcoming Joint Consultation Meeting to be hosted in Thailand later this year.

4.                  By and large, the two farewell calls were seized by both sides to thank each other for the solid support extended in ensuring the success of the important events that had taken place in the past and the ones that will take place in the future. They reflected the cordial relations that existed and nurtured by both sides for the common benefits of the peoples of the two friendly neighbours.
