HANDING-OVER CEREMONY OF COMPUTER EQUIPMENT TO FIVE SCHOOLS IN SOUTHERN THAILAND 25 AUGUST 2011

 

 

On behalf of the Government of Malaysia, the Embassy of Malaysia in Bangkok together with the Consulate-General of Malaysia in Songkhla had been entrusted to hand-over computer equipment worth RM220,000 to five pondok schools in southern Thailand. The handing-over ceremony took place on 25 August 2011 at Prateepsasana School in Nakhon Si Thammarat.

 

Representatives from four other schools based in Songkhla and Krabi were also present in the event which was held prior to the breaking fast session. The Embassy was represented by Dato’ Nazirah Hussain meanwhile Mr. Mohd Aini Atan, Consul-General Malaysia in Songkhla represented his office. The event was also attended by Dr. Surin Pitsuwan, Secretary General of ASEAN.

 

The contribution was made on the awareness to enhance the literacy rate in ICT among the students so to better prepare them for higher education in the future. In her remarks, Dato’ Nazirah described the contribution as sincere contribution by the Government of Malaysia to the people in southern Thailand and expressed her hope that the contribution would be capitalised by the students to better equip themselves with knowledge for future challenges. In thanking the Government of Malaysia, Dr. Surin described the contribution as a manifestation of the latter’s conscience in supporting the socio-economic development in the region.

 

The contribution made had somehow enhanced the image of Malaysia in the eyes of the local people. Not only had it helped to boost the bilateral relations, beyond that it had also contributed towards the aspiration of ASEAN vis-à-vis people connectivity.
