INTERVIEW BY ASEAN TV

INTERVIEW BY ASEAN TV
29 JULY 2010

ASEAN TV, an entity under the Mass Communication Organisation of Thailand (MCOT) visited the Embassy with a view of filming an exclusive interview with Dato’ Husni Zai Yaacob as part of its “Meet With Diplomats : Cultural & Lifestyle” programme which will be aired over Channel 99 UBC (paid TV) and Channel 5 (public channel). The 30-minute programme is aimed at showcasing Malaysia from as many aspects as possible to TV viewers in Thailand.

2.         The programme of the day started with the one-to-one interview with Dato’ Husni in his office where various questions ranging from his career, family and experience in Thailand were asked by Ms. Kusuma Yodhasmutr, the programme host. Other than the interview, the Embassy had also organised two other special side programmes to reflect Malaysia as comprehensively as possible to ASEAN TV.

3.         First, a specially-organised exhibition of Malaysian arts such as batik, pua kumbu, wau and other tourism materials was held at the lobby of the Chancery. As a matter of fact, the lobby of the Chancery was nicely decorated with those materials and turned to a mini exhibition hall where traditional music was also played. On top of that, various other Malaysian products were brought in by the Agriculture Office in Bangkok and MATRADE Bangkok to further reflect Malaysia as an important hub in manufacturing those consumer goods. Other than FAMA products, products from Munchy’s, Hup Seng and White Horse Ceramic were also put on display and open for sale too. Video presentations on tourism and trade were aired to add more feel to the ambience. PROTON Office in Thailand had also loaned two cars, namely, Exora and Persona CNG which were put on display at the lobby of the Embassy.

4.         In showcasing Malaysia’s unique food, PERWAKILAN had opened few stalls to sell nasi ayam, mee hoon sup, mee goreng and various kuih-muih such as karipap, bingka, sardine roll etc. A wide selection of Malaysian all-time favourite drinks such as sirap bandung, teh-o-ais limau and teh tarik were also made available to those present. Actually, the food and drinks were on sale as part of the Embassy’s ongoing project known as Hari Selera Malaysia which is organised every fortnightly where other than the staff of the Embassy, fellow Malaysians in Bangkok are also invited to sample the food. It was the second time the event was organised after its overwhelming debut on 2 July 2010.

5.         Essentially, the programme went very well with good attendance from the Embassy’s staff and fellow Malaysians in Bangkok. A special photo shoot was also organised at the main lawn of the Embassy where all Malaysians present were dressed in traditional costumes to reflect the multi-racial society of the nation. Some were donned in batik, baju kurung, kebaya, Chinese kung-fu male dress, sari, Iban, Murud, Melanau and Portuguese. The photo, among others, will be published in local newspaper supplementary in conjunction with the celebration of the upcoming 53rd National Day.
