MALAYSIA’S 53RD NATIONAL DAY RECEPTION

The Embassy of Malaysia in Bangkok hosted the 53rd National Day reception on 16 September 2010 with the presence of approximately 700 guests. The date was chosen so to coincide with Malaysia Day – another important day in Malaysia’s calendar which signifies an important milestone in the nation building process.

 

2.         Among the VVIPs who were present include H.E. Kasit Piromya (Foreign Minister of Thailand), H.E. Chai Chidchob (President of the National Assembly and Speaker of the House of Representatives), H.E. Thepkamol Devakula Na Ayuthaya (Privy Councillor), H.E. Alongkorn Ponlaboot (Deputy Minister of Commerce), Pol. Gen. Wichean Potephosree, Dr. Kantathi Suphamongkhon (former Foreign Minister), Gen. Sonthi Boonyaratkalin (leader of Matubhum Party) and few other prominent local politicians. Meanwhile several hundred of Malaysian citizens, friends of Malaysia and members of the diplomatic corps also attended the colourful yet moderate reception.

 

3.         In his remarks, Dato’ Husni Zai Yaacob expressed his pleasure on the strong bilateral relations between Malaysia and Thailand in all aspects. The year 2010 proved to be a more productive year for both countries as economic indicators such as trade volume and tourism showed healthy and upward trends. Dato’ Husni also seized the opportunity to bid farewell to the invitees as he was due to end his tour of duty the following week.

 

4.         Essentially, the event received an all-rounded praise by attendees and the turn out was overwhelming. The attendees were served with sumptuous Malaysian cuisine such as sate, beriyani, teh tarik, kuih-muih, laksa, to name a few. Warm and friendly atmosphere was evident throughout the evening and every guests walked home with their beaming smiles.
