MALAYSIA’S 54th NATIONAL DAY RECEPTION,16 SEPTEMBER 2011, SHANGRI-LA HOTEL, BANGKOK
In line with past tradition, the Embassy of Malaysia in Bangkok had once again successfully hosted another National Day reception on 16 September 2011in conjunction with the 54th anniversary of Merdeka.
2. More than 750 guests attended the reception which includes several hundreds of Malaysian citizens, friends of Malaysia and members of the diplomatic corps. The colourful yet moderate reception started at 2000 hours and officially ended two hours later.
3. In her remarks, PYT Dato’ Nazirah Hussain underscored the importance of the bilateral relations between Malaysia and Thailand which were described as friendly and very substantive. She expressed her hope that the various upcoming bilateral meetings scheduled this year will be held which in turn will deepen the existing relations. Trade and investment remain at the core of the relationship but regional and global cooperation on a range of issues and strong people-to-people links have made the ties even stronger more so if the spirit of ASEAN is to be factored in.
4. In addition to the above points, Ambassador Nazirah also highlighted various policies and initiatives spearheaded by the current administration to bring Malaysia to a greater height such as the Government Transformation Programme and the Economic Transformation Programme which all were aimed towards bringing Malaysia to achieve developed nation status comes 2020.
5. Essentially, the reception was a huge success to the Embassy as reflected in the warm and friendly atmosphere observed throughout the evening and every guest walked home with their beaming smiles.
