A special Malaysia – Thailand Cultural Show was organised by the Foreign Office under the Government Public Relations Department of Thailand on 23 September 2010 at Aksara Theatre, King Power Complex. The event aimed at promoting cultural exchange between Malaysia and Thailand through music and performances and, of course, at enhancing bilateral relations between the two neighbouring countries.

 

2.         Malaysia was represented by four promising young artistes namely Iqwal Hafiz, Nabil Asyraf, Wani and Fatin. A group of dancers from Istana Budaya also participated in the event. They collectively belted out a number of Malay songs like Mentera Semerah Padi, Cindai, Nazam Berkasih as well as a number of English songs such as If I Ain’t Got You, How Do I Live etc. The lead star from the Malaysian side, Iqwal Hafiz, impressed the audience with his rendition of Thai songs Sabai-Sabai and Oi Oi and he proved to be the favourite among the crowd as he had earlier performed in another show in Bangkok in June 2010. Meanwhile, the dance troupe from Istana Budaya drew oohs and ahhs from the audience with their remarkable dance moves of Dia Datang, Kain Songket and Zapin Bunga Hutan. The Thai side, on the other hand, put up an equally remarkable performance by its young artistes who were basically the winners from a famous reality programme and various cultural performances depicting the lifestyle of its people from the north to the south.

 

3.         The sterling performance by the young artistes from Malaysia received all-rounded praise from the audience. A strong 20-member delegation from the Embassy was present to extend the support to the said artistes. The fun-filled 2-hour show ended with a photographic session where the staff from the Embassy seized the opportunity to mingle with the artistes from Malaysia.
