MALAYSIAN FOOD CHARITY DINNER 4 SEPTEMBER 2011

In a unique collaboration with the Malaysian - Thai Chamber of Commerce (MTCC), Kelab Malaysia Thailand and Thailand Peace Network Foundation, the Embassy of Malaysia together with the above entities co-hosted the inaugural Malaysian Food Charity Dinner (MFCD) at Dusit Thani Hotel on 4 September 2011. More than 500 guests attended the said dinner which featured Chef Dato’ Ismail Ahmad, a celebrity chef from Malaysia who flew all the way to support the event.

The special guest for the dinner was H.E. Kittirat Na Ranong, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce of Thailand. In addition, a good number of officials from the Thai Government agencies, diplomatic fraternity, business sector and members of the media were also present.

The event was aimed at promoting authentic Malaysian food to local audience where despite being close neighbours, there is rather a limited presence of Malaysian food and restaurants in Thailand compared to those from China, India and Japan. As such, the event was used by the organisers to showcase Malaysia from the gastronomical perspective. In her remarks, Dato’ Nazirah Hussain, the Ambassador of Malaysia to Thailand underscored the importance of bilateral relations between the two nations especially from the economic point of view which shows upward trend in the past years. Areas such as halal sector, food security and service industry could be explored further due to their vast potential. In this regard, all the stakeholders from both sides were requested to better synergise their efforts to capitalise from the growing market.

The fun-filled evening continued until 2100 hours where other than enjoying the food, the audience also had the chance to listen from Chef Dato’ Ismail himself on the food prepared and a number of the guests present were also lucky to win fabulous prizes from the lucky draw held. The event received an all-rounded praise by the invited guests owing to the excellent arrangements made by the oganisers and the cordial atmosphere evident throughout the evening.
