STATEMENT BY DATO’ SRI ANIFAH AMAN MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF MALAYSIA ON THE CURRENT SITUATION IN THAILAND

In view of the escalating incident in Bangkok, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to recommend Malaysian citizens to defer all travel to Bangkok until the situation returns to normalcy. However, travels to other parts of Thailand remains safe. The Malaysian Embassy in Bangkok remains open and thus far, Malaysian citizens in Bangkok are safe. As neighbours with close bilateral relations, Malaysia hopes that Thailand will be able to resolve the political problems through peaceful methods.  

 

2.   The Ministry’s advice for Malaysians who are living in or already in Bangkok are as follows:

  • to avoid from visiting the hotspots occupied by the red-shirts particularly, Ratchaprasong Intersection, Lumpini Park, Silom Road and its surrounding areas;
  • to take extreme care about personal safety and always be vigilant;
  • to monitor events and the latest developments by monitoring the news from local and international media (print and electronic);
  • to register with the Embassy of Malaysia by calling up the Embassy or sending an email to the number and address stated below;
  • to contact the operation room of the Malaysian Embassy in Bangkok for assistance, if necessary.

3.   The operation room can be contacted at number +662 629 6800. The operation room operates everyday from 4.00pm to 10.00pm on weekdays and from 10.00am to 10.00pm on Saturdays and Sundays; and
