TRAVEL ADVISORY : THE CURRENT SITUATION IN BANGKOK, THAILAND AS OF 21 MAY 2014
Malaysia continues to monitor closely the political developments in Thailand, including the announcement this morning of the imposition of martial law by the Royal Thai Army.
Malaysia maintains the position that we hope that all parties continue to work towards finding a peaceful solution to the issues presently facing the country.
In preparation for any possible signs of civil unrest, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to advise Malaysians to avoid travelling to affected areas of Thailand. They should consider, for the time being, postponing any non-essential visits to the region for personal safety and security reasons.
While the imposition of martial law appears to have had minimal effect on the daily lives of people living in Thailand, we wish all Malaysians who are at the moment in Thailand, to remain vigilant and to monitor closely the developments by following the news from the local and international media (print and electronic). Presently there are 596 Malaysians residing in Thailand who have registered with the Malaysian Embassy in Bangkok. There have been no current reports of Malaysians who have been adversely affected by these latest developments in Thailand.
Any Malaysians requiring consular assistance may contact the Embassy of Malaysia in Bangkok. The contact details are as follows:
