GENERAL ADVICE FROM THE EMBASSY OF MALAYSIA IN BANGKOK
THE CURRENT SITUATION IN BANGKOK
The Embassy wishes to refer to the situation in Bangkok in connection with the on-going anti-government protests held in many areas in Bangkok.
2. In attempt to pressure the current caretaker government to step down, the anti-government protest movement has announced its plan for ‘Bangkok shutdown’ on 13 January 2014 which could last as long as 5 to 20 days. The protestors have planned to dissolve its current rally site at Ratchadamnoen Road and will set up seven new main rally sites at major roads namely; Lumpini, Chaeng Wattana, Asok- Sukhumvit, Ratchaprasong, Pathumwan, Victory Monument and Lat Phrao. In this regard, as a precautionary measure, the Embassy would like to advise fellow Malaysians travelling to and residing in Bangkok the following:
a) Malaysians are urged to refrain from participating and/or showing support in any form to any parties;
b) For Malaysians residing in Bangkok, it is advisable to stock up on supplies of food, medicine and other necessities;
c) There will also be inconvenience as a result of some major roads being closed, especially where the tourist places of attractions are located;
d) Continue to be vigilant and monitor closely the developments by following the news from local and international media (print and electronic); and
e) For Malaysians travelling to Bangkok, keep close contact with the Embassy and if assistance is needed, the number to call is:
