VISIT BY YB FOREIGN MINISTER TO THAILAND, 24 OCTOBER 2011
YB Dato’ Sri Anifah Hj. Aman visited Bangkok on 24 October 2011 to hand over the donation of USD1 million to the Thai Government on behalf of the Government of Malaysia following the ongoing floods that have affected almost 30 provinces in Thailand and affected more than 2 million of its people. The contribution was presented personally to H.E. Yingluck Shinawatra, Prime Minister of Thailand in the afternoon of 24 October 2011.
The contribution reflects the feeling of sympathy shared by Malaysia to its close neighbour which is facing its worse ever flood in five decades. Malaysia had earlier sent her condolence messages through the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister to their respective counterparts expressing the sympathies of Malaysian people over the natural disaster.
After the simple ceremony at the Flood Relief Operation Centre (FROC) was concluded, YB Dato’ Sri Anifah made a short stop at the War Room of AAPICO Hitech Ltd., a company owned by a Malaysian and had been affected by the flood where the entourage was given a short briefing by Mr Yeap Swee Chuan, President of AAPICO. The briefing session proved to be informative as the entourage had the chance to hear directly from a person who has not only been affected by the flood but has also been actively engaged by the local government in discussing flood mitigation efforts.
At the end of the short visit, YB Foreign Minister seized the opportunity to have a short discussion with some of the officers from the Embassy to exchange views on a number of issues from political to economic and others as well.
