VISIT TO MALAYSIAN-OWNED COMPANIES IN SUKHUMVIT AND RAYONG 18 JUNE 2010
After the success of the recent visits to two Malaysian-owned companies in Thailand recently, the Embassy of Malaysia had once again visited two more companies, namely, Mecomb Thailand Ltd and Siam Power Generation Public Co. Ltd. on 18 June 2010. The delegation was led by Dato’ Husni Zai Yaacob.
2. Consistent with the previous efforts, the visits were aimed at enhancing the good working relations between the officers of the Embassy with the key players in the industry. Despite meeting some of them informally on various occasions, the special visit had accorded the delegation from the Embassy to understand better the problems often faced by the said companies. Certainly such efforts bode well with the economic diplomacy initiative undertaken by the Embassy.
3. Mecomb Thailand Ltd. is another subsidiary company of Sime Darby and has been operating since 1967. With paid up capital of Baht 40m, the company has been supplying electrical components, industrial fans etc. In Thailand alone, the company managed to generate an income of more than half a billion in 2009. The company is currently exploring the possibilities of venturing into areas such as medical health as well as oil and gas to further diversify its operation. Meanwhile, Siam Power Generation Public Co. Ltd. has been involved in power generation field since 1996. Its current level of production of 150Mw is way below of its full capacity of 450Mw. The company hopes that more efforts would be channeled towards setting up more plants in the area so to enable them to reach its full capacity in the future.
4. As usual, each of the visit ended with Q&A session where the delegations from both sides exchanged ideas and feedback on the issues raised. Certainly from the perspective of the Embassy, other than enhancing the relations with the companies concerned, it is also keen to learn more about their problems and explore the possible assistance that the Embassy could render to solve them.
