WORKING VISIT BY DATO’ SRI DR. NG YEN YEN
MINISTER OF TOURISM, MALAYSIA
4 – 7 SEPTEMBER 2010
The Hon. Dato’ Sri Dr. Ng Yen Yen undertook a 4-day working visit to Thailand from 4 – 7 September 2010. Throughout her stay, Minister Ng. Yen Yen visited most of the tourism attraction hubs in Thailand by visiting Phuket, Pattaya, Bangkok and Chiang Mai.
2. Among the pre-arranged itinerary, Minister Ng Yen Yen had met with various tour operators in Thailand, expatriate associations as well as members of the media in further promoting Malaysia and by giving them direct briefing on tourism industry and opportunities in Malaysia. A courtesy call on H.E. Chompol Silapa-archa, Minister of Tourism and Sports of Thailand was also arranged to enable Minister Ng Yen Yen to discuss issues of mutual concern with her counterpart. She also seized the opportunity to visit some of the tourism spots in Thailand such as the famous Siam Niramit which is renowned for its exclusive Thai cultural performances in addition to the famous night markets in Thailand.
3. While in Bangkok, Dato’ Sri Dr. Ng Yen Yen had officially launched the much awaited tourism website in Thai language which is accessible from www.sawasdeemalaysia.com for the benefit of potential Thai tourists. A specially designed ‘’It’s All Here’’ Malaysia packages brochure was also revealed at the same event held at Dusit Thani Hotel in Bangkok. The event was well attended by local media especially those involved in tourism industry, flight operators as well as local travel agents.
4. The visit by Dato’ Sri Dr. Ng Yen Yen was timely and bode well with the efforts to strengthen bilateral relations with the host government. With the well-planned itinerary, hopefully the visit would contribute towards the aim by the Malaysian Government to lure higher arrivals of tourists from Thailand in the future.
