H.E. Datuk Wan Zaidi Wan Abdullah Courtesy Call on Governor of Yala Province

On 9 April 2026, H.E. Datuk Wan Zaidi Wan Abdullah, Ambassador of Malaysia to Thailand, paid a courtesy call on Mr. Kongsakul Chantarach, Governor of Yala Province.

The engagement provided an opportunity for both sides to discuss the potential opening of a permanent border checkpoint in Kabang District, Yala as a strategic link with Kedah, Malaysia. The proposed initiative is envisioned to enhance connectivity, facilitate cross border trade and promote economic activities in the border areas.

Discussions also highlighted the development potential of Kabang as a key economic gateway, with prospects to attract investment, boost logistics and transportation networks and support the movement of goods, services and people between both countries.

Both sides exchanged views on the necessary studies and coordination required, including investment feasibility, trade volume projections, transport routes and relevant regulatory and security considerations, in advancing the proposal.
