HISTORY OF THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE
CONSULATE GENERAL OF MALAYSIA, SONGKHLA, THAILAND
The Consulate General was established on the 3rd February 1958.
The land on which the Consulate General was housed was leased by the Thai government to the British since 1923 for the British Consulate in Songkhla.
The British left on the 2nd February 1958 and rented the building to the Malaysian Government to establish the Malaysian Consulate.
Rent paid to the British for the period 3rd February 1958 to 30th June 1968 @ £1,330 per month (RM 117,460.70).
The Thai Government came to know and they contented that the land belongs to the Crown of Thailand. Subsequently the land was leased to the Malaysian Government for a period of 30 years from 3rd February 1958.
The contract was signed on Wednesday 10th April 1968 at 10.30 a.m.

The building was purchased from the British for RM 86,109.00 paid on 16th October 1969.
The Malaysian Government pursued the idea of buying the land to build a new Consulate building together with Residence and Staff Quarters. The Thai Government consented to sell 5 Rai 3 Ngarn 60 Tarangwa for that purpose at Tcs. 7,080,000.

1 sq.mt. = 10.8 sq.ft.
9440 x 10.8 = 101,952 sq.ft.
Other expenditures such as Sub-Division, Survey, Registration and Title Deeds Tcs. 70,853.40 (RM 7,380.26)
Payment for the land Tcs. 7,080,000 (RM 749,063.67) was made on 6th November 1980. Payment for other expenditures was made on 14th November 1980.
